A common area of confusion is what address to use for setting up entities as well as legal documents. Here is an overview.
First, lets define what a physical address is:
- Home address - where you live is a physical address.
- Office address - your office can be a physical address.
- Mailing address - can be a physical address where mail is received.
- PO Box address - can be a physical address where mail is received.
- Registered agent address - when you form an entity in another state, your registered agent address is a physical address.
For various documents, here is what we recommend you use.
- Formation documents - we recommend a home, office or registered agent address.
- IRS EIN letter - we recommend a home or office address.
- PPM - we recommend a home or office address. Otherwise, a mailing or PO Box address is okay.
- Operating agreement - we recommend a home or office address. Otherwise, a mailing or PO Box address is okay.
