Can a fund manager invest in their own fund?

Updated 6 months ago by Sanjay Vora

Fund managers are permitted to invest in their own funds. In fact, investors like to see their fund managers invested along side of them in investments.

There are some restrictions associated with retirement accounts.

  1. Avestor recommends that you do not charge a management fee to your personal accounts
  2. Total retirement assets in the fund cannot be greater than 25% otherwise other ERISA rules are triggered.

Note: Avestor provides sponsors with general guidance. Please speak with your securities attorney for your specific situations.
